Enya 35 : Best Props' ?
« on: March 15, 2011, 02:40:07 AM »
Greetings fellas. Can I have some help please regarding my Enya 35's.

I bought one of the new issue  35's from Enya direct. The 5224 series with the 'square' plastic venturis.

After an age of bench running in  , around 2 hours plus , I'm ready to install in a model and fly.

On the bench she seems to prefer a Graupner 10x4 , holding a lovely 4-stroke at around 9,800 / 10,000 on my base fuel which is 23% lube [ 19% castor , 4% synthetic , zero nitro ].I'm using a strap-on tongue muffler.

She also quite likes an APC 10x5 , spinning at around 9,200.

Which prop' would you recommend please for flying ?

Would the 'traditional' 10x6 be best perhaps ?

Any contributions appreciated ,

Robin.

RevUp 10/6 should  work very well on the Enya .35.        S?P

I really doesn't pay to recommend props that are no longer readily available to the modelling public. As much as I like Rev up I try to make other props work. if you make your set up dependent on a unobtanium item it will certainly fail you at the worst possible time. A good reasonable prop for the Enya is the Thunder Tigre cyclone prop in 10/6 .It's excellently molded, balance it quite good it is reasonably priced and it is available. Others will certainly chime in with other viable alternatives including the APC series.

Robin - not knowing what plane you plan to fly or how you will fly it, it's impossible to suggest a good prop.

I flew a 40 ounce green-box Nobler for many years using an ENYA 5224 with a Top-Flite 10-6 wood.

I have recently started using the Thunder Tiger plastic props and they are first class - in my opinion, the best prop available without spending megabucks.

No matter what, you will have to do some trial and error to find the best fit.

By the way, I ran it with the middle size venturi and the low-compression head with an extra head shim. It was like a Fox 35 on steroids.

Bob,
I don't think that he is talking about the old 5224 Enya of years ago. Rather the newer SS35 which is built on the SS25 case and also has a 30 in between using the case. They are real beauties and run well although I have only run the 30 at this time. But I have the other sizes and will get to them shortly.

No I think he did buy one of the Older model square ventrurie  35s, Ken did make a few of them from new parts, but even if it is they work well with a 10.5 x 5 prop, either one. and as Bob  said  smaller venturie and the lower compression head works pretty well

Interesting that the SS35 came up, a I was out playing with mine (on a Chizler) only yesterday.  Originally I was using an APC 10.5x4.5 and 5% nitro/20% castor fuel, but had a couple of runaways.  I fiddled round a bit with fuel and props, and found that 5% nitro/11.5% castor/11.5% synthetic wtih muffler pressure and an 11x4 in a wet 2 was a good combination.  I wasn't expecting a 10x6 to be much good on this type of engine, but yesterday decided to try a RAM 10x6 just to see what happened.  Turns out it was great - I launched with it just on the verge of breaking into a 2-stroke and got a really nice stunt run out of it.  No idea what the lap time was but it seemed just right.  As far as I'm concerned, the 10x6 can stay.  Lovely engine, btw.

I've been running mine with a RSM 10X6 prop,  low compression head.
runs a very nice 4-2-4 . Did take a couple of hours run time
to smooth out.

The first contest I ever entered, I used an Enya 5224 (sq. vent/low comp. head) and was running it in a 4-2.  I used 10-5 props and it did run a nice "higher rpm" break.  Not the 8800 rpm Fox 4-2, but still a predictable break.  I was very confused when guys told me later that the Enyas would not run a 4-2.......... ???

I'm just the original "Blind Hog".  I do grub up an acorn every now and then.
