Almost a little sad =-(
« on: December 10, 2010, 09:07:35 PM »
It is mixed emotions when you get done with your building project (or in my case, recovering / upgrades project). The weather will not let you go fly it, so nothing to do but clean up your mess and think about what to do next. And hope that there will be a flyable day between now and the new year. :-\

Looks real good from 20ft away.
OS FP .25 on a uni-flow tank.

I looks good to me.  Try a 9-4 APC and launch at 11400.  It works on a Flite Streak clone.

Line tension seems to be better with the 10-4 even with the same lap times ( due to the lower RPM?).  Try them both.

I'll agree with the APC 10-4 on a FP-.25. I have one on my P-Force and use this combo, and also on a Flight Streak ARF. Good combo on a Ringmaster also.

Paul, one of our fellow club members just completed the same identical plane and powerplant as you just built. I'm not sure of the weight, but I was surprised that it did indeed feel light. He is one of our newer members still trying to beat ole terra firma. He's trying to complete the beginners pattern but recent problems with older outdated and malfunctioning equipment led him to build the same model as you presented. The plane started life with a OS FP.20 per the instructions that you've probably seen on the net. Well, things always don't work as planned and the plane was indeed in need of more power. He switched to the FP.25 and never looked back. Same prop as your running and it gives him some real confidence. The weather has presented a problem for our club as well as temps have barely risen out of the 40's and blustery winds. Today Saturday the weather seemed great but unfortunately I had to work. I suppose he was flying it today as tomorrow appears to have rain in the forecast. Dan put it through the paces a few weeks back which is always cool to see your plane put through its paces. Good Luck and maybe you might catch a break Ken & Shawn

I like the name on the side of your pushrod.  That should be the motivator for your markings.

Can't wait to see it fly.  Supposed to be winds of 28 mph tomorrow by noon here.  Come on over.

I like it! You should put some skies on it and take it for a test flight today.
I agree with some of the other guys, it would look even better with some military lettering.

Hey, Buddy, that thing BEGS to be done up in Vietnam era NAVY markings.  it's already dove gray.  a big flashy squadron marking on the tail.......  or MARINES, like my buddy's squadron of F-4s, a big red running devil on a white diamond all outlined in red on the fin/rudder.  VMFA 212 I *think*.  I could go on.............

HI Paul,

I was wrong, it was VMFA-232.

I am going to try and post a pic of one of their F-4s in 1970.  The squadron insignia was on the fin at some time.  Not hard to do!  Plus I would add some red to the wing tips and stab/elev tips, etc.. ;D

Howdy Bill,

I think Paul had his Skyray kinda looking like the F4 in the picture above before LL~ LL~ LL~

Sorry Paul >:D

It would be interesting to know the story of the plane.  I can see the seat rails extended and the vertical stab torn off.

HI Z-Man,

I don't have a clue on the history of that picture.  From the obvious damage, flat tires, etc, and the fact the crew punched out, I don't see how the plane got to that stage of sitting on the tarmac with out being destroyed.  Unless there was an emergency ejection on the flight line due to an internal (engine??) explosion.  I never saw a Phantom land itself!
