The PC Flyer's are happy to announce that we have secured the Madera Airport as the site for the 2012 GSSC! The venue offers a very nice asphalt surface that will easily host 4 circles side by side. This site will allow practice on Thursday and Friday preceding the contest, and as early on Saturday and Sunday as you wish.
The host hotel will be the Hampton Inn & Suites, and that will also be the location of the Saturday night Banquet.
Here's a Google satelite view of the airport, http://g.co/maps/deq47 (http://g.co/maps/deq47). We will be flying on the tarmac at the North/West end of the hangers. The dirt area just to the North of the tarmac will be the parking area for your cars. This view also shows the Hampton Inn & Suites just North of the airport.
We sure hope everyone who can will attend, and that the new site offers the type of flying conditions most will enjoy.
Contest information will be available and updated as needed at: www.californiacarclubs.com/gssc.htm (http://www.californiacarclubs.com/gssc.htm). You may also download the flyer and registration form from the site.
Feel free to contact me with questions.

That's good news Brian
Dad raced giant scale R/C races there for years.
And many memories of the full scale Warbird airshows there.
An excellent venue.
Is this just for this year?
Or is this a possible site for years to come?
Perhaps its a bit early to project things like this.

The airport manager is very open to our being there, and the city was quite helpful in the paperwork process. If the flyers like the venue, I would like to see it become a "permanent" spot.
The RC flyers have been moved off the airport, I hear the reason was Cal Trans objected to them being there. I can't imagine why, as they were flying on the crop duster runway. We will be on new ashpalt where new hangers were supposed to go prior to the economy crashing.

Brian,
Thank you and all involved in making this happen. The Golden State Championships has always been one of the premiere west coast contest and I'm sure this year will be no exception. Ill see you there.
Thanks again

Brian,
Over the years I have made it a point to NEVER repeat anything Larry says so this will be the ultimate contradiction.
Please quintuple his appreciation and amplify 100 times his gratitude for you and all who made this happen.
And one more THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORTS

That makes it unanimous from the JCT. Thanks, Brian.

Great that they have new asphalt.
I used to fly there when we had the Gathering of Warbirds airshow in the 80's. Fun local people, good little airport.
