Title: pre 1976?
Post by: david beazley on May 06, 2012, 08:43:43 AM
I am planning to attend the Glory Days Vintage Fly-in in Julian, NC next weekend.  I am trying to see if some of my C/L planes qualify.
Can someone tell me if the following were designed or flown prior to 1976?
Super Clown
Sig Akromaster
Sig Banshee
Muciano Custom Special

I have a Ring Master which I know qualifies plus a Muciano Flight Master and a Roy Clough Flying Saucer which should be OK as well.
Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the Muciano Custom Special, but the rest are all pre 1976. The Super Clown is Old Time Stunt legal (Pre 1953).
  Good luck and have fun,

There is an autobiography by Walter Musciano that lists all of his articles, books, plans, designs, or whatever he has done (literally hundreds of items).  There is a "Custom Special" listed as a profile Scientific kit for .09 to .19 power.

In another article written by Walt Musciano about Scientific Models, Inc, Musciano writes:

"By 1972, the forty-three history of Scientific model airplanes came to and end due to lagging sales."

So, I guess it would be save to say that the Musciano "Custom Special" appeared well befor 1976

I built a Custom Special from scientific and powered it with a cib 14. This was done as a teenager . I graduated high school in 1963 so it was definitely before then, So I'd say that it is definitely legal. But you would definitely be at a disadvantage flying it, fun though it was.
