John Lowry's Wingmaster
« on: March 10, 2008, 09:56:32 PM »
Since I had so much leftover time before VSC, I started this kit tonight. It's a laser cut knockoff of the Ringmaster. Real nice laser cutting, so so wood quality. But John only charges about 40 bucks for this thing! (can't remember the exact amount) CAD plan done by Wild Bill.
The second picture was taken 22 minuets after the first and I never even touched a knife.

We kept putting off getting a Lowry's Netzeband Doodlebug kit (too many kits that probably will never be built anyway), and it looks as if the Lowry kit business is out of business (at least, the domain name has been allowed to expire).

There are Glue Dobber members here, right (silly me, of course) -- one of you may know the latest?

That would be too bad if he wasn't making kits anymore. I didin't know much about him when he advertised these kits on SSW. I just bought it because I like to support the cottage kit makers. I was surprised to find out this kit was laser cut and had CAD plans. Looks like it should fly real well.

Anybody here have more info on Johns kits?

I think he still is in buisness, his web sight just got to expensive through his ISP or whatever there called. He goes by Brother John on SSW, you could send him a PM and find out the skinny.

I received an Email from John on Feb 7th advising that he was making another block of kits.  He gave
a new Email address of johnlowry@wingstream.net.

Between creating a real building area again, and Tower / GP dropping the Tutor II, getting something in the air with real wheels under it again (nothing but old combat stuff is still flyable) seemed to be receding into the distance . .

Heck Ray, Get a Brodak Cardinal ARF or a Super Clown ARF.

Actually, there *is* a Super Clown hanging on the wall, but the performance is pretty sad with that one .. on the other hand, I had gotten the relative size of the Cardinal Profile associated with the size of the Pathfinder, and in my warped view, 620 in2 of ARF wants more than an ordinary 46 up front, while the Tutor II was being sold with a Tigre 51 that was more than it needed.  We have 40s, several brands' worth, even some Tigre 46s, but no 51s (there may be a "parts engine" of a 51V Tigre), and no 60s.

However, given Windy's preference for super thick Patternmaster style airfoils, the Cardinal may want a very STOUT 40, of some sort, or even the best of the G21-46's that we have.

We have a never-used SSW - tuned FP 35, maybe a Cardinal is the right matchup for it?  (As I recall, it took so long before the engine was ready that something else was used for whatever that engine's proposed project was going to be, back when FP's were still in production.)

The Cardinal is 579 sq's don't know about the 35 on it but I have a L&J Fox 35 on a 550 sq. Oriental and it's great. Give it a shot the 40 and 35 FP's have the same bolt pattern.
