It's an excellent stunt engine for 500 to550 or so sq in stunt planes weighing in the neighborhood of 38 to 44 oz.

Prop would be any good wood 10-6 or APC 10-5 or 10-6.

This engine needs fuel with good lubrication from Castor and synthetic mix with minimum of 24% total oil.  Standard R/C fuel will destroy it in short order!

Been there, done that (with a 25).  On the plus side, once you've ruined them they're very easy to flip -- it's just pointless.

AMA 64232

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

There is a potential con rod problem but with proper lubrication they usually last for several hundred flights.  If the engine is in good condition and has very good compression I wouldn't worry about it!  This was very much a favored engine for many years in Stunt.

I have two that ran for many hundreds of flights in Noblers.  One did develop a rod problem and the rod was replaced with a ST35 rod with some minor fitting.  The ST rod is bushed.  It's a good mod for longevity if you can find a one!  I also have two so configured!

 Hello Randy
What mods did you have to do to the ST.35 Rod to fit?  I have a new OS .35S and if I can find an ST.35 Rod would be doing the mod. Is there a source for the ST Rods? I have a couple of ST.35 that would benefit from new rods. I took the backplate of my engine and the rod has an oiling hole but no brass bushing. The OS.35 Combat specials were that way too.

there is a bit of play in the shaft with no prop on it but once you install prop and nip nut virtually nothing, paid $60 bucks for it  ,i was actually thinking of building nobbler for it as i have gieske plans, but i think i will do it with profile fuse

The Nobler is perfect for that engine. I mix my own fuel with either 15% castor and 5% synthetic oil or 20% straight castor oil. With straight castor, it will eventually varnish up especially with a muffler. 5% nitro is usually enough unless you are at high altitude.

You don't need a Tiger rod. Go over to Stuka stunt and talk to Leonard Neumann, he makes an after market rod for that engine for about $15.

good to know thanks for the tip keen to get it in a plane runs fine on bench

Think Newman 7 Big Art / do a Nylon T up the big end there , to hold rod fwd.

Stops it walking, also a ' X ' relief in front face , for oil retention against crank web .

A SS threadf on it , somewhere .
