Well, here 'tis. From Flying Model plans. About five flights so far, some trim issues but nothing that a little "tweaking" can't fix. Power is an OS 35S but may be changed to a Brodak 40.

Pete, well done, one of my Sheeks favorites. I have often thought of building that myself. Did the plans show an I beam construction?

Aww, you got me there. I started out building it as an I-Beamer but it soon became evident that my skills were not up to the challange. It became a question of abandoning the project or converting it to a configuration that I was more comfortable with. Soooo, out came the spar, wing cut-outs were made in the fuselage sides and the wing was converted to a C-Tube configuration. Airfoil is the same though. I know purists will scoff but what the heck, Jack built some planes this way, however this was not one of them.

Pete, you do nice work and I love your rendition of the plane. I know Jack built many I-beamers and conventional wings. I am glad you continued the project as it is a unique plane not often seen. More of these type of models need to be built, Great Job Pete!

I took a copy of the picture of your Ryan SC and your posts to our local CL club meeting tonight. Every one there likes your color choices and Jack said it should fly good the way you built it.

P.S. The Club meeting was at Jack Sheeks house.

Thanks all, I appreciate the positive comments. Special thanks for showing the pic to Jack, I'm glad he approved. The paint scheme is very close to his original although the colors are different. Brodak 40 has been installed and I'm hoping to have the bugs ironed out for VSC.

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, that makes you inelligeble for the I-Beam award. It is still eligible for the Jack Sheeks award tho. Just put in a better pattern than the rest. Haverly had it sewed up last year until he trimmed himself outof contention. He did get the beauty award tho. I have my award hanging where Jack keeps an eye on my building. Plane looks great and hope to see it in person. DOC Holliday

Hi Doc, I never intended this airplane to be in contention for the I-Beam Trophy. I'm just happy to be able to attend, support the event and compete with a design that I have admired and wanted to build for many years.

I like these rarely built models. I think more models like Petes' need to be built. It sure is a nice change form the usual Nobler/Ringmaster/Thunderbird Classic lineup seen at most contests. And Pete built his from plans!. That is something I rarely do because I'm lazy.

Thanks all. It does fly well and it was real special seeing how Jack and Shirley appreciated my choosing to build it. I encourage everyone to consider building a Sheeks design for next year. Now I see why his designs were as popular as they were back in the day.

It's been awhile since I have seen this thread. The center of the wing TE (inside the fuselage) was squared off so a standard flap horn was used. Lucky Boxes were built into the built up flaps (similar to the technique shown on many RSM kits). They worked as advertised and there was no binding in the controls.
