#2 Chizler, not holding out
« on: February 04, 2016, 05:03:11 PM »
I crashed my first Chizler at Golden State in 2013 making trim adjustments between official flights.  Dumb, neutral was way off for my second flight and lost it in horizontal eights.   I finally built a new one.  I’m pretty sure it was the best flying classic model I’ve had to date.

Specs:

Dick Mathis Chizler, 45 ounces.

Wings and fuselage are covered in Polyspan, silkspan on the control surfaces.

Finished with House of Kolors "Tangerine" candy concentrate mixed with Randolph clear butyrate.

Base colors are automotive toners mixed with Randolph clear, silver and purple over coated with House of Kolors purple Kandy concentrate.

Clear coat is USC two part automotive polyurethane.

Power:  RoJett .40, 10 x 4.5 three blade carbon fiber prop, Brodak spinner.

As soon as El Nino quits dumping rain on us, I’ll get to fly it.
Mike

Typical Mike Haverly airplane - the closer you get the better it looks.  I really don't have words to describe Mike's work.  The man is extremely talented.

That is gorgeous Mike. I love the colors and where you put them. That is the kind of plane you just get a cup of coffee and stare at it like any work of art. Or maybe a glass of wine.

Yep, I thought it was pretty cool. It's why I posted a pic in my Shoestring thread. I like it.

Hey Mike, if we can get some weather let me know and I'll go with you to test fly. I'll have a couple of planes to try.

Mike that is beautiful. Making a stunt model with a great finish and not building it heavy is a art not many have.
Nice job

It’s funny, I’ve never considered the words “art” or “talent” with my model building.  I’m a machinist, so copying what has already been designed is pretty easy for me.  The  clear finish is typical Pete Peterson influence and the general layout is a product of spending a lot of time learning how to use Corel and my vinyl cutter.

Keeping things light is a challenge for me too, I wanted lighter but this is the same as my first Chizler and it flew well.

Randy, I would love to go flying but we can’t get into the airport until April.  I’m thinking about a road trip to either Richmond B.C. or Portland.  We can use the airport but we have to pay a whole month’s rent.

The PDF is what I came up with on Corel, and made adjustments from there.

Well, I plane to do a little test flying at the local school. Nice thing about electric is, it won't draw attention.

That is one fine looking Chizler, nice work Mike.
I especially like the canopy. Great shape, nice blend and a funky pilot figure!
I see people my age out there climbing mountains and zip lining and here I am feeling good about myself because I got my leg through my underwear without losing my balance

If you come down to PDX post a note & I may go out to Delta Park to visit.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.
