Tom Morris Bell Crank Set Up
« on: March 05, 2017, 06:33:35 PM »
I recently purchased a Tom Morris 3/16" x 4" Bell-crank.  It came with a post, materials for wrapping ends etc.  In the kit there is some silicone tubing and two wheel collars  with set screws.  Can anyone describe the set up for these bell-cranks?  Am I to assume that the collects are for either side of the bell-crank to keep it centered.  Also do I just trim the shaft and epoxy it into place in the bell-crank supports?   Thanks, Phil

I've bought some Morris stuff.
He gives you a variety of options to fit your project.
I don't ever use the wheel collars, but rather box the bellcrank into the structure.

Set up the lap top so I could hear what's being said.   He didn't say anything about grinding a small notch in the wire to set the screws into when you tighten them.  I some times have to add a washer or two to take up any slack between the bell crank and the wheel collars.  I also ditch the tubing and add washers to center the bell crank.  Also after it is installed I put something top and bottom over the ends of the 1/8 inch rod so it can't move vertically.  Lost a good plane as the post slipped out of the ply piece.  Hope this helps. Here a couple of pix of my installation in a Brodak Cardinal profile wing.
Top and bottom views.  The 1/6" ply, top and bottom, to position
the 1/8" bellcrank pivot during installationon the ribs before the balsa sheeting,
notched into the two center 1/4" ribs.  (full body fuse)  After sheeting the wing
I put another 1/8" piece on top and bottom after putting the wing in the plane.

Hopefully this helps.
