Building a NEW Basic Trainer...
« on: May 10, 2012, 01:24:03 AM »
Okay guys we've come up with a NEW aerobatic basic trainer that will hopefully be a good flying, durable and beginner friendly trainer. Now to see just how beginner friendly it will be I am having my 13 year old son Jesse build it. While Jesse has the ability to build some pretty complicated Lego's, the kicker here is that Jesse has never built a flyable model airplane.

This model is 100% laser cut and features a builtup profile fuselage with a foam wing (cut by John Duncan)
and will be able to be built as a take apart or as a one piece model. Also has an adjustable L.O. guide and externally mounted bellcrank and wingtip weight.

The specs are:
Wing Span 46.25"
Wing Area 456.267 sq.in.
Length 33"
Engine .35-.40

This model was originally designed by Eliott Scott which was modified to what became the SAKITUMI.

Eliott originally called this the BOS. Since I have completely modified Eliott's BOS (or pre-SAKITUMI) and also made it as a take apart, I am calling this the BOS-II and for anyone that is interested we will be offering this as a kit in the future, so let's hope for this one to be a success...

Very cool!  Will this kit be available for general consumption?

Looks like the student has been paying attention or is listening.   Let us know when a kit will be available.   I was building stick and tissue when I about 7 or 8. H^^

Very good pictures!

Much nostalgic for me, since I remember of my older sun with the age of 12, building his first CL plane in 1992. :D

It was a Manicaca 2 (kit of Mobral, of Brazil) with a CB .25 (a good Brazilian engine of that time).

Congratulations.

OKay guys,

Jesse brushed on and sanded the primer coat and I helped by doing the covering and most of the spray painting but
he did actually do some of that also, so let's jump ahead and show you Jesse's finished prototype.

More on the finished prototype.

I am told that Rustoleum takes about a week for the paint to fully cure to be fuel proof , so
flight reports will have to wait a little but should be in about a week.

Thanks for looking and I hope you all enjoyed following my son's first flyable model airplane as much as I have supervising him.

That is awesome and I love the paint scheme.   What is the covering or do I have to go back and read from page one?   This might be the thing that gets my grandson back on the handle.   Just to have someone  to fly my planes also.   H^^

Ward-O

That is my feeling. What made planes like the Ringmaster and the Magician virtually timeless, is their simplicity and ease of assembly. And of course they flew good once you built them. That said, more stunt ships is better then less!!
