Aero 1 Filler
« on: December 18, 2010, 01:04:08 PM »
Randy I have a bottle of your Aero 1 filler, which I've never used before and I'm about to start finishing a couple of models. Can you give me some pointers how to properly use this product so that I don't screw up my finish?

Normally I put light silkspan over sheeted areas including the fuse, flaps etc. Does the filler go on the bare wood before or after applying silkspan? Also, what quantity of filler goes into the mix?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Dennis

Many use it in dope, like you would talc or corn starch, I mix up a qt jar with 4 tablespoons of ZS filler, it is much lighter than talc or starch and sands way better, I thin just enough to brush it out on bad places but mainly I shoot it thru a gun at 100% thinner added, after it dries, I then look for bad spots, i brush it on thick over "only" the bad spots, then sand it off and spray again...repeat until smooth. I also put about 4 drops of black in the mix to get a light grey, this shows up all the flaws. It goes over not under paper, It is not a gap filler or meant to fill big flaws or voids, do that with light weight model magic or some other filler.

Hi Randy

I also have some of your aero filler. When spraying on should I try to avoid to open nays of my sv and just try to hit the cap strips ? Or give the ship a full coat?

Hi Steve  as with any filler  most try  to avoid shooting over open bay paper, that really doesn't need  filler. I only use it over the cap strips, and it maybe much easier to just brush the cap strips  with a small brush, if the coats of clear are not enough
