For those who have an interest I am happy to announce that RSM is now ready to issue Keith Trostle's Tercel.

The Tercel is the 1/2A model that has won the US Nationals twice with two different pilots. Keith has suggested that we increase the size of the Tercel by 10% in order to take advantage of the .061 glow engines. In addition to this modification Keith suggested that we issue the kit so that the Tercel could be built it as designed or with optional canopy and different shaped fin/rudder. In addition to these modifications we have also made the Tercel so it can be built for electric power.

We will be doing the initial test cut the week of Jan 9th. Once the test build is complete and we are assured that there are no "fit and finish" issues we will release the Tercel for sale.
The price for the Tercel will be $79.99 but RSM is offering a "Pre-Issue" Special Price of $64.95 for anyone who orders between now and Jan 31st. If you are interested please contact Eric at RSM 951-678-1406 to place your order. A deposit of $30 will be required and the balance will be due when the kit is ready for shipping. Payments can be made by credit/debit card, check, money order or PayPal.

I haven't done anything control line related for 3 plus years.  been through marriage separation, house sales, change in jobs, moving, buying house, renovating house etc - so had no time for anything else really.

Quick question on design. The original had plans for a tank (custom built, I believe).  This one shows a Norvel and an electric version, but doesn't show the fuel tank.  What tank is being used?  I'm designing an elliptical wing 1/2A and need a good tank that can be used in the built-up fuselage.  This plane came to mind as a possible source of a tank.  Thanks, and tight lines.

Hey Steve:

Don't hesitate too much to make a custom tank.  You can get sheet tin from K&S (Amazon has it if your LHS doesn't) and make up a tank with just about any soldering iron in existence.

Hi Steve:

Tim is certainly correct about how easy it is to solder up a metal fuel tank (Lord knows I have done well over 2000 since I purchased GRW Tank Company). The only difficulty is bending the sheet steel into the shape you want and creating end caps that fit the shape.

If you do not wish to go to this effort you can always use a balloon tank. I have worked with Larry Renger over the years. If anyone out there knows 1/2A models it is Larry (last chief engineer for Cox). He put me onto using balloon tanks years ago. They are simple, inexpensive and they work great! You just have to make sure you seal the tank box area and make it easy to get to. This is because the balloon will eventually break and you will have to replace it. I always keep two or three replacement balloon tanks in my flight box.

Balloon tanks are totally immune to fuel foaming, too!  y1 Be sure to use helium rated balloons. A search on this forum will tell all about construction and use.

Thanks for the helium balloon info.  I don't remember seeing that on some of the balloon tank posts.  But, being naturally lazy I didn't search that hard. H^^
