A few years back there was a company called "Golden State Models" ( I think).
They sold some profile 1/2A kits for a Messerschmidt and a Spitfire.
I was wondering it any of you guys might have plans for those kits or a kit for the Messerschmidt that you might like to part with?

Golden State Models was run by a very good friend Bob Ellis who is now departed from us. Brodak now kits some of the Models that Bob used to make. The Stork is a good 1/2A Model. If you could get the plans for the planes you want you could probably use the Stork ribs. If you can get one of his kits they were top rate hand picked wood etc.

I have owned or flown several different Storks, and no matter how badly built, they flew well!  An excellent and very simple model design.

I had sent John my last Stork kit a few years ago to help in the re introduction of the kit. I'm pleased that he also used the stork decals that I used on mine.

I missed this post when it was "current" but want to add a reply.

I had forgotten that I had a Spitfire kit.  Th wing is built so I should definitely finish it up.  All I have to use is a Norvel .061 Big Mig.  It will have to do!

For info. Golden State was purchased by Walter Umland some time back. Later Walter sold most of the files to Brodak.  Some he kept as I understand it.  Before it became Golden State Models, it was called Joes Free Flight or some such name. 
More than one cottage industry, here and in model railroading, has changed hands and names numereous times. They all seem to have hard to find  quality items, but a very, very limited customer base, which kills them off. No market beyond first sales.

It was 'A-J's Free Flite Service', out of Fresno, CA. A MAJOR S.A.M. supplier... 'Mom & Pop' operation, with some nice profile C/L offerings as well.
1989, they also had Sterling Mustang, Yak 9, American Stunt, and others...
Their 1/2A kits were exceptional.

This model has a 36 inch span - isn't this rather large for 1/2 A?

Jeff do not judge or rate a 1/2A model by it's wingspan; evaluate the model by it's wing area. All of these designs are too darned

small for a .061cu"/1cc engine. I have a hand me down Stork from Barry Baxter; It flies great with an early prototype .049 C.S.

sport engine. That engine has about the same power as a Cox Medallion .049, which is a better choice power plant for the AJ Stork

and it's same wing brothers than the TD .049.    Those 1cc engines can easily carry 250 sq" wings unless built ridiculously heavy.

Golden State Models was owned by Bob Ellis who purchased the business from Russ James of AJ Freeflight in Fresno,Ca. Bob lived in Kingsburg,Ca
when he was alive. He used to hand pick the wood at the supplier and spend so much time and care making the kits that it did not make him any money for the time he put into it. Not sure who Bob sold the business to but if you have a kit that says Golden State Models Bob made it and it
will be very good. He was an awesome person and I miss him very much.
